Roger Dale Clingan

1952 – 2020

Roger Dale Clingan, age 68, of Mayo, FL passed away at North Florida Regional Medical Center of Gainesville, FL on December 22, 2020 from severe complications of COVID-19.

Roger is survived by his wife, Donna Jo Clingan of Mayo, FL. Children: Regina Clingan of Mayo, FL, Wendy Dickinson (Jackson) of Madison, FL, Crystal Stormant (Will) of White Springs, FL, and Ryan Clingan of Mayo, FL.

Grandchildren: Dylan Clingan (Stormy Collins), Dalton Clingan (Farrah Dennison), Celsi Bash, Colin Bash, and Riley

Stormant. Siblings: Stanley Clingan (Diane) of Palm City, FL, Mary Clingan-Venable of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Glen Clingan (Pam) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Along with nephews and nieces, great nephews & great nieces, cousins, a church family, wonderful friends and, of course, fishing buddies.

Roger attended Midway Church of God where he was a faithful member. He was a quiet, reverent man of God with a giving heart.

Roger was a correctional officer, a Sergeant, for the Department of Corrections in the State of Florida. He served in law enforcement for 25 ½ years, retiring in 2014. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Roger served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Air Borne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C. As a skilled carpenter, he was a member of the Florida Carpenter’s Union for many years while living in South Florida.

Bass fishing was his passion. He was a member of Madison County Bass Club and Georgia Boys. His favorite lakes were in Tallahassee, FL and South Georgia. But any lake would catch his eye and call for a rod & reel. As a skilled horseman, Roger owned, raised and rode Quarter horses for many years. That was actually the driving force that led he and his family to the country life of North Florida where they have lived since 1986.

Being a family man, Roger loved to spend time with all his family, as he was known endearingly as Daddy and Grandpa. He was consistently training and teaching his children, grandchildren, and anyone who needed him, life skills, along with the fun of boating & fishing, playing softball or horseshoes or cornhole.

With his beliefs and with his remarks he was a “straight-shooter”, if you asked him something, you had best be prepared for the truth. But he was so much fun with his undeniable dry sense of humor and contagious laugh.

Roger will be missed by all that knew him.

As were his long time wishes, finalization will be by cremation at Crevasse’s Simple Cremations of Gainesville, FL.
