Shirley Ella (Church) Cromwell January 29, 1935 – November 20, 2020 85,

loved by her husband Richard for more than their 66 years of marriage. Richard tenderly cared for her throughout her challenges within the last couple years. Shirley will be missed dearly by her husband, children and her grandchildren who will forever cherish the lessons and advise she taught them and all the love she shared. Shirley was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1935 and after traveling with her husband Richard in Seattle, West Palm and Connecticut to name a few, they settled for over 45 years and raised a family in Gainesville Florida, Shirley is known for her genuine big heart and touched many in her own special way, from enjoying trips and travels with her husband on a European river cruise to one of many Gator basketball and football games. Most would say softly spoken with kindness. She touched everyone’s heart, to a phone call to her daughter in law with a giggle, calling each other Mrs. Cromwell, from the family dinners, to late college study nights she was the neighborhood mom. Handmade cards and ornaments, stamping, or a morning walk with her neighbor to the local farmers market to pick up a camellia flower for the yard, butterfly museums, rides to ballet rehearsal, baking cookies to selfies, with her children and her grandchildren, she was always there for them. Shirley, the calm, fair beautiful women who always offered and provided will be missed my many. Think of her whenever you enjoy an ice cream on a stick, lasagna she made the best or a night out with a crab cake to name a couple of her favorites.

With the holidays near and heavy hearts, the tradition that has taken place for over 30 years and 1000 plus bags will be lit in memory of Shirley on Christmas Eve, so this may be a tradition already in your family/neighborhood but if not please light a candle, luminary on her behalf.

Robert and Ethel Church; brother Robert and sister Ethel Susan (Susie)
