Thomas Hammond passed away Saturday, April 11, 2026, after a short battle with cancer.
His presence is already missed beyond measure by those who love him. He was a supportive husband, great dad, and our world’s best Pop-Pop.
In his early career he worked in the I.T. Department at D.O.T. He then spent the longer part of his career at The Village of Gainesville and held different positions as he grew professionally. He began there in the I.T. Department, moved to Maintenance Supervisor and then to his most proud and effective role as Senior Director of Operations. Tom worked with many great people and treasured his time there. He loved making a difference in the lives of the residents, some of which became close friends. He left The Village and took a position at Jones Edmunds & Associates not long before his diagnosis. His plan was to work a few years until retirement and “do big things” in their I.T. Department. He felt lucky to have started his career and ended it alongside a very dear friend.
Tom was born to Jerry Hammond and Barbara Luke on October 15, 1968. Both of which predecease him. He leaves behind his wife, Rebecca Hammond, daughters Tori Geiger (Brandon), Shelbi Hammond (Cory), stepsons Benjamin Fitzgerald (Tori), and Cory Greene. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Zayne, Adaline, and Eloise. He loved being their Pop-Pop and thought that was probably the best title he could hold. He also leaves behind Melonie Morris Kent, the mother of his girls, his brother Jeff Hammond (Kara), sisters Nicole and Crystal, many nieces and nephews and in-laws that loved him as their own.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Community Hospice & Palliative Care for their wonderful care and support during this vulnerable time. As his wife, I will be eternally grateful for each of the staff members that touched our lives. I would also like to thank friends and family that offered support during this time. I appreciate each of you so very much.
A private celebration of life will be held in October.
Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Hammond family.
